Despite the fact that more than 70.000 protesters and 2.500 organizations participated in the first Unmute Us demonstration on August 21, the Dutch government in The Hague only gave an unsatisfying response. This is why there will be another protest on September 11.
“We see the fact that nothing more than an invitation for a conversation comes out of the ivory tower as a sign of weakness, which shows that they don’t have the answers either. This reinforces our belief that this policy is based on arbitrariness. We continue to fight for reopening and announce new demonstrations on September 11 and call on everyone to join us in the streets.”, Unmute Us stated. Neither the protest nor an open letter by the organization to the responsible ministers sent received an answer, which is why Unmute Us calls everyone once again to participate in another protest.
“We did not take to the streets on Saturday to arouse pity. We weren’t there to celebrate either. We are literally being silenced: Unmute Us!”
Unmute Us demands the reopening of the Dutch event sector according to the Fieldlab conditions. Thorough research has been conducted on how events can take place safely, yet, the government seizes to ignore those results.
It is still unclear in which cities the protest will take this time. Check out the Unmute Us website for the latest information.
