‘We Are The Marshals’ is just a glimpse of what this trio has to offer. After their debut at Intents Festival premiering up to seven new tracks, Marshals of Mayhem have taken the scene by storm.

There’s a big community behind the nostalgia of the sounds that made rawstyle shine on its golden era a decade ago. This community is led by some artists who are taking this music to the next level. Two of them are definitely Radical Redemption and Unresolved who, after the success of their collab ‘Slayer Of Kings’, decided to team up together with MC Nolz to create a new formation: Marshals of Mayhem.

We have asked the main characters how this project came about. “The funny thing is this act was given birth in a swimming pool in Australia”, Radical Redemption says. “I was on a small holiday and the whole concept just came to me. I texted Niels (Nolz) and my manager Johan and we created a groupchat… but we all knew we needed a third person.” Why Unresolved then? “There was such a vibe with Ihor while creating ‘Slayer Of Kings’. We respect each other for what he stands for musically and staying true to his sound, so it was an obvious call. I explained to him the whole idea and the timeline and the rest is history!”.

“Intents Festival was the perfect place to premiere this project”

As we already said, Intents Festival was the first place to witness what Marshals of Mayhem has to offer to the current hardstyle scene. Both Radical Redemption and Unresolved had a very special edition of Intents Festival behind them - apart from the Marshals of Mayhem premiere, Joey played the Phase 2 of his ‘Laser Legion Live’ show and Ihor hosted the indoor mainstage together with The Purge on Saturday. But why did they decide to showcase their brand new project here as well? “I think we all have a great history with this festival”, Joey tells us. “Premieres, hostings, anthems, showcases… It’s just a great team that is always open for new, exciting stuff”.

How did Joey, Ihor and Niels prepare this special set? “We sat together at Joey’s studio for 2 days straight, laying down concepts for the tracks, writing and recording vocals and hooks. The click in the studio was just there and things went on really fast! Every kick we touched, melody we wrote or drop we made just made sense”. We were there to witness this premiere and the crowd reaction was really, really good. “To finally do that show at Intents Festival, bringing all the new music and hearing everybody screaming ‘We are the Marshals of Mayhem!’ was just a dream!”.

“‘We Are The Marshals’ is a track for the dancefloor and that’s what Marshals of Mayhem, as an act, is too”

This week it’s time for the very first release of this project. ‘We Are The Marshals’ was premiered some months before Intents Festival and was already a very anticipated track by the rawstyle audience. In which way does it represent Marshals of Mayhem’s sound? “The whole thing about this tune is what it stands for. In Dutch we would say this is ‘straight in your face music’. It’s just a kick that hits in your chest like there will be no tomorrow with a big, dark melody. You just can’t stand still on this song!”.

We have also asked the Marshals of Mayhem what was the creative process of this track. “I (Joey) made this directly after I came home from Australia. The ‘We are The Marshals of Mayhem’ tag is actually my voice, but processed! I got the whole track set-up (melody, vocal and first kick) and then I finished the whole track together with Nolz and Unresolved. Sometimes we also work individually on stuff and bring it to a Marshals of Mayhem session. It worked really well for all of us!”.

“We just produce what we like, no matter if that’s the trend or not”

It’s very obvious that Radical Redemption, Unresolved and Nolz’ styles blend very well. Their approach to music is very similar and the product we get when they combine forces is definitely one of a kind. But how do they merge their distinctive sounds into a fully new collaborative concept? “It’s important to plan studio days together”, they claim. “Our sound fits because we don’t go with hypes or trends. It’s what we believe in, so every decision is really easy to make. If we like something, the process continues”.

Apart from the production of two big heavyweights of the rawstyle scene such as Joey and Ihor, it’s very important for us to have the presence of Nolz, someone who has accompanied Radical Redemption and who has been the voice of rawstyle for years. “The roughness, the edge, the energy of Niels… it’s what Marshals of Mayhem stands for”, Joey said. “We also made ‘Class Dismissed’, a track where Nolz is the real center piece of it. It’s the moment for him to take the center stage and tell a story. Just listen to the track, it’s what we recommend!”.

The future of Marshals of Mayhem: new music, new shows and more!

And now, what’s next for Marshals of Mayhem? More new tracks, new showcases, new shows, maybe an album…? “Well, what not to expect… Obviously there’s a lot of new music there but we are planning to make some extra tunes before the end of the year”, they told us. “We don’t want to spoil anything even though we know you want a little scoop… let’s say that doing an album is not something we would not be interested in, if you know what we’re saying! The liveshows will be pure MAYHEM - no nonsense, no bullshit, just go very hard while you scream along and feel those deep kicks pound through your chest!”.

Now it’s time to play ‘We Are The Marshals’ on repeat! You can also stream their Intents Festival liveset, which has already been uploaded and make sure not to miss their next show, which will take place at REBELLiON Indoor next November.
