Premiere minister Mark Rutte called in a press conference for Saturday 7 pm CET to announce new measures against the spread of the new COVID variant Omicron. While there has been an evening lockdown in place for a couple of weeks already, the current measures are apparently not enough to stop the spread.
The Netherlands has been in a partial lockdown for several weeks now, where everything has to close at 5 pm. Now the Outbreak Management Team (OMT) has advised the Dutch government to take further measures – a full lockdown.
That means that everything, besides essential stores such as supermarkets, has to remain closed. Restaurants, regular stores, gyms, schools, museums, and also gyms have to shut down once again. It is still unclear for how long these measures will stay in place, we shall find out at 7 pm today.
Of course, that also affects clubs and events. Even though events weren’t allowed with the current Dutch measures either, it is another setback for the industry that has been suffering tremendously for two years already. It is still unknown when events will be possible again, but we sure hope that the government will finally come up with a plan for the culture sector so we can finally reunite again at (Hardstyle) parties.
