Ephoric, one of the established artists on the Derailed label. After one and a half years of silence, it is time for him to release new music. I wondered what he is mainly concerned about within these crazy times. I also wondered about the creative process behind his new track. Ephoric opens up about the new production style he would be using from this track on, about growing as a producer, and more. Curious about his story? Read on!
FIRST OF ALL, HOW ARE YOU DOING?
I’m doing really well. Happy to be finally able to party again after such a long time. Made a lot of new music in the studio during the 1,5 year of silence, which greatly improved my creativity.
HOW DO YOU KEEP YOURSELF BUSY IN THESE CRAZY TIMES? MAINLY MAKING MUSIC?
DEFINITELY! Making music is what I do these days, all day long, haha! Sometimes it’s hard because normally you receive your inspiration from the crowd during shows. That’s the only thing (I think) we all miss a lot.
AT LEAST WE’RE FINALLY ABLE TO PARTY AGAIN! DO YOU HAVE BIG THINGS ON THE SCHEDULE?
Finally, yes. I’m receiving some things on the schedule again, which makes me even more excited to play those new tracks there.
SO, A SICK NEW TRACK. WHAT IS THE IDEA BEHIND IT AND WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION COME FROM?
Yes, finally able to release this one. The first feedback I’ve received on this one were outstanding! They said they never heard something spooky, but also very original before. My main focus was the melody part, to keep that interesting and also give it a unique touch, you won’t give daily to a chord progression.
IS THERE SOMETHING WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE CREATIVE PROCESS OF ENLIGHTENMENT?
Well, as I said above, the chord progression. I really loved to make something like this. It was a kind of step out of my zone I’m making music in. It felt really creative to make something like this because there aren’t a lot of elements in the track, which you would normally use. My main focus was to keep it simple and catchy and also recognizable.
WHAT MAKES THE ENLIGHTENMENT DIFFERENT FROM YOUR OTHER TRACKS?
The use of the vocal, arrangement, and chord progression. I was so damn proud of the end result, that I was jumping all over the place in the studio, haha! I’ve played the first version of ”Enlightenment” at Uniqcarte their first recording, which has evoked a lot of reactions on that track. I was so happy and overwhelmed by that.
WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE OF EPHORIC?
Let’s keep working as hard as I’m doing now, playing new music at shows, and release a lot of tracks. Hopefully, someday we can make some big steps into the future, where I can showcase my music for a whole bigger audience. That’s why I am so grateful to play at the holy grounds of Defqon.1 next year, to showcase all the tracks I’ve made the last couple of months. Let’s meet in the future!
